There are tremendous opportunities ahead to bring awareness to the reality that long-term recovery is real for millions of Americans. People can and do recover with appropriate and accessible treatment and recovery support services. At FOR-VT, we aim to make recovery a reality for even more Vermonters. We will attempt to bring recovery support services fully into the reach of those still suffering. By promoting the power of recovery from addiction, we will fight the stigma and discrimination that so often keeps people from reaching out for help when they need it.

We will be hosting several forums in the year ahead. Speakers will share their experience of being public about their recovery. We will continue a tradition in which, each year, for the past eight years, we have held a special forum at the statehouse to help educate lawmakers about the value of recovery.

During the past year, FOR-VT has organized the FACES Project, which is a network of parents of youth/young adults who have experienced substance abuse treatment. We also began providing support for consumers to develop peer services for co-occurring mental health and substance abuse issues, through the VISI project (Vermont Integrated Services Initiative).

And we're very excited about public awareness campaigns that we are organizing for Alcohol Awareness Month and Recovery Month. We will be working with recovery community organizations, treatment providers, prevention coalitions and faith communities around Vermont to use these annual observances to engage the public in civic dialogue about recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction!
